Here is my Carnivorous Plant Care Sheet
Kansas Carnivores
Care sheet
Sunlight: If you want to grow your Carnivorous plants in direct sunlight you will need to first acclimate your plant to the sunlight. If you do not you can kill your plant. Some species require more sunlight then others, like your Sarracenia, Venus Fly Trap, and Drosera.
Artificial Lights: If you do not have a south facing window, you can use use fluorescent or compact fluorescent. Be sure to keep the light about a foot above the plant. Try to keep the light on for about 14 hours. Please do not use ordinary light bulbs as these get too hot and are the wrong spectrum.
Water: Use distilled, rainwater, or even place a cup of water out on the counter (uncovered) for 24 hours. For best results use a tap water purifier of some kind. When watering try not too over water, it is easy to do. Some plants are susceptible to root rot so avoid this by allowing the roots to breath, let the top layer dry a bit before you water again.
Humidity: Varies between species. The higher the humidity the better, but most can be acclimated to tolerate being grown in a windowsill
Soil: Carnivorous plants require nutrient poor soil that has good drainage. Use a soil mixture of 1 part peat moss, 2 parts perlite .Another option is to use 1 part peat moss and 2 parts perlite with 1 part western cedar mulch. Try to avoid vermiculite and (LFS) they tend to break down rather quickly requiring you to repot. Never use potting soil or fertilizer they will kill your plant.
Feeding: It is not necessary to feed you Carnivorous plant. Many of us have some insects in our homes, bugs are naturally attracted to your plant. Mature plants can survive on only a few insects to remain healthy. Do not us bugs that have been chemically sprayed to feed your plant. Feed you Carnivorous plant only bugs or insects. Do not feed them Meat.
Dormancy: Some of these Carnivorous plants require winter dormancy. Your Sarracenia, Venus Fly Trap, Darlingtonia californica( Cobra Lilly), and some Drosera. Some of these plants can be stored in your refrigerator crisper until the last frost, and then placed out side in a bog.
